The cottage that we’re located in is actually the last standing cottage that still remains on its original location built by the legendary founder of Calistoga, Samuel Brannan.

A Rich History
The actual inspiration for Sam’s General Store dates all the way back to the Gold Rush. Before his hot spring resort, and even before the founding of Calistoga, Brannan leveraged the gold rush into a fortune. But not by mining. Instead, he opened a Mercantile (General Store) selling goods to miners and began earning up to $5,000 per day. (That’s over $120,000 by today’s standards.)
He kept leveraging his investments and building his empire, which eventually included the famous Calistoga Hot Springs resort which was built to cater to San Francisco’s high-class travelers. This is where the art of wellness and relaxation originated in Napa Valley. He helped perfect living the good life, which is a tradition that locals take very seriously to this day.

Brannan Cottage Inn is the only remaining cottage standing on its original location, and such a unique and special location deserves to be highlighted so more people can enjoy it.
